[Financial News] A heartwarming story has emerged about a customer who made the restaurant owner nervous by canceling the first delivery order in full on the restaurant’s opening day, then paid for 25 drinks as an opening gift.
According to online communities and social media (SNS) on the 4th, A, a self-employed restaurant owner who recently opened a restaurant in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, received an unexpected gift from the first customer to order delivery from the restaurant.
A, who opened the restaurant on the 26th of last month, discovered that the ingredients for steamed red scallops had run out while handling the first delivery order since opening, and called the customer. After A explained the situation and asked for understanding, saying, “I’m sorry—this is the first delivery order we’ve received since opening,” the customer suddenly asked, “Please cancel the whole order.”
A was flustered by a cancellation request right from the first order, but a twist soon brought relief. Immediately after canceling the original order, the customer made a new payment, adding 25 cans of soda (worth approximately 50,000 won) along with other dishes.
The order receipt’s request field carried an encouraging message: “Owner, please don’t give me the soda. It’s an opening gift. Please make the food delicious. Congratulations on your opening!” In effect, the customer gave 50,000 won for drinks as an opening gift, showing consideration for the novice owner, who had been put in a difficult position after being unable to properly fulfill the first order because of the ingredient shortage.
Moved by the customer’s thoughtfulness, A responded in kind by including a heartfelt handwritten letter, a side dish of fried squid, and a lottery ticket.

In the letter, A expressed gratitude, writing, “You were my first delivery customer, yet you gave me such a generous gift. Thanks to you, this has been such an encouraging day,” and, “It’s a small gesture, but I hope you enjoy it, win first prize in the lottery, and become rich.” A also shared the story and receipt on social media, writing, “The world is still worth living in. I’ll make this restaurant a big success and be sure to repay you.”
Netizens who heard the story responded enthusiastically, saying, “That must have been a heart-stopping moment when the first customer asked to cancel, but what a touching twist,” “I’m moved by the warmth of someone readily giving a complete stranger a 50,000-won congratulatory gift,” and “Both the customer’s thoughtfulness and the owner’s heartfelt gesture in return are beautiful.”
