[Financial News] LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd. will apply Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)'s power equipment diagnostic technology to its own equipment monitoring system. It plans to expand its business into semiconductor factories and data centers, where a stable power supply is essential, by identifying the risk of failures in transformers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) at an early stage.
LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd. said on the 5th that it had signed a technology transfer agreement with KEPCO for the power equipment preventive diagnosis solution (SEDA) at the Bitgaram International Electric Power Technology Expo (BIXPO) 2026, held on the 4th at the Kim Daejung Convention Center in Gwangju. Chae Dae-seok, CEO of LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., and Kim Jae-gun, vice president of KEPCO's Power System Headquarters, among others, attended the event.
SEDA, developed by KEPCO, is a system that analyzes the condition of major substation equipment in real time. Under the agreement, LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd. is set to receive technology that classifies the risk of failure for each piece of equipment into five levels and sends an alert when signs of an abnormality are detected.
According to LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., KEPCO has prevented 88 power equipment failures since introducing SEDA in 2021. The cost of failure repairs saved over the course of last year was reportedly 37 billion won.
LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd. plans to apply SEDA technology to its own condition monitoring system (CMS) to improve diagnostic accuracy, and to link the CMS with an asset management system (AMS). After checking the risk of failure, equipment operators will be able to use the diagnostic results to decide which equipment to inspect first.
Chae Dae-seok, CEO of LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., said, “This technology transfer will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the competitiveness of our solutions by combining KEPCO's excellent preventive diagnostic technology with our power equipment management capabilities. Building on our technological capabilities to predict power equipment failures in advance and manage them systematically, we will expand our business in markets where a stable power supply is important, including semiconductor manufacturing and data centers.”
