[Financial News] The so-called “Scarf Man,” who became famous for his distinctive banter at Seoul’s Namdaemun Market, has started engaging with people on social media, and 1.95 million views have shown just how popular he is.
The merchant known as the Namdaemun Scarf Man posted a video of himself on his way to work on his social media account on the morning of the 4th, writing, “People around me kept telling me to interact more, so I’m giving it a try, but it’s not really my thing.”
The video shows A walking down the street and looking at the camera without saying much. Even so, it received about 38,000 likes and 1.95 million views.
Internet users cheered A on, commenting, “You have to row when the tide comes in,” and “It seems to show that opportunities come when you work hard.”
A began gaining popularity after videos of him selling scarves, handkerchiefs and other items at Namdaemun Market—and instead telling customers, “You’re overspending right now” and “Don’t spend your money”—were posted on social media.
At one point, visitors flocked to the area around his store, and A temporarily suspended business, partly out of concern for safety. Four days later, he reopened and welcomed customers.
