[Financial News] Ewha Womans University announced on the 4th that it had received a 100 million won development fund donation from an alumna physician to strengthen its medical research capabilities.
According to Ewha Womans University, Jung Mi-ra, head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Daehan Hospital and president of the Korean Christian Medical Association of Women, recently visited her alma mater and delivered 100 million won to the Ewha Medical Research Fund. Chairwoman Jung is a medical specialist who graduated from Ewha Womans University’s Department of Medicine, earned a master’s degree at its graduate school, and received a doctorate in medicine from Korea University Graduate School.
The donation will be used in full to strengthen the advanced medical research activities and global research capabilities of Ewha Womans University College of Medicine faculty. The university plans to further enhance its competitiveness in medicine with the research funds it received.
Jung, the donor at the center of the fund transfer, has long championed medical volunteer work in Korea and abroad, including in Mongolia and the Philippines, as well as support for marginalized groups such as youth aging out of care. In recognition of these contributions, she received the Mongolian Red Cross’s Medal of Appreciation in 2019 and the Boryeong Medical Volunteer Award in 2026.
“Just as still water turns rotten, the blessings we have received become true blessings only when we keep passing them on,” Chairwoman Jung said. “While training as a doctor, I was always proud to be an Ewha graduate. Seeing firsthand that the more my alma mater develops, the more the standing of its alumnae rises as well, I decided to make this donation.”
Ewha Womans University President Lee Hyang-suk expressed her gratitude, saying, “We will keep in mind the noble intent of a senior alumna who has put love and service into practice through medicine and become an excellent role model for younger students.” She added, “The university will spare no effort in providing support so that the College of Medicine can further strengthen its research capabilities.”
