[Financial News] Kim Nam-yeon, former chair of the Korean Red Cross’s Special Advisory Committee on Women’s Volunteer Service, has taken office as its new vice president.
According to the Korean Red Cross on the 4th, Vice President Kim was elected at the fourth Central Committee meeting, held on the 23rd of last month, and held her inauguration ceremony that day. Her term is two years.
Born in Seoul in 1964, Vice President Kim graduated from the Department of History at Ewha Womans University. She worked on public-interest activities at organizations including Soroptimist International Korean Union and the incorporated association Can Foundation.
She began serving as a member of the Korean Red Cross headquarters’ Special Advisory Committee on Women’s Volunteer Service in 2015. After becoming its chair last year, she worked to foster volunteer groups and secure funding for humanitarian projects. In November that year, the committee and the Suyo Volunteer Group used proceeds from the Red Cross Bazaar to prepare winter supplies, book and culture gift certificates, and other items for 5,000 people in vulnerable circumstances.
Last year, she joined the Red Cross Honors Club, the Korean Red Cross’s major-donor group, as its 325th member and has been supporting humanitarian projects at home and abroad.
In her inaugural address, Vice President Kim said she would make sure volunteers face no difficulties in their field activities. “I will support the Korean Red Cross so it can devote itself to its core humanitarian work in accordance with the principles of neutrality and independence,” she said.
