【Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In】 Jeonbuk State is setting out to build a national hub for South Korea’s Physical AI and robotics industries by linking its accumulated manufacturing and agri-bio industrial base with robot investments earmarked for Saemangeum.
On the 4th, Jeonbuk State held the “Jeonbuk Forum on Becoming a Global Powerhouse in Physical AI and Robotics” at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.
The forum discussed five key projects totaling 1.3 trillion won, along with national-level support measures to back them.
Participants included lawmakers Chung Dong-young, Ahn Ho-young, Kim Yun-deok, Han Byung-do, Yoon Joon-byung, Kim Eui-gyeom, Lee Sung-yoon, Park Hee-seung and Park Jie-won, as well as Jeonbuk State and the Jeonbuk chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Thematic presentations were given by KAIST professors Joungho Kim and Gong Seung-hyeon, Hanyang University professor Park Tae-jun, Automotive Convergence Technology Institute director Oh Yang-seop, and Jeonbuk Techno Park division head Yoo Ji-yeon, who presented detailed implementation plans for each project. Drawing on the discussions presented that day, a written recommendation to the government was drafted calling for the five key projects to be included in the 2027 national budget and for an interagency cooperation framework to be established.
Jeonbuk State plans to work with political circles and cities and counties to make the case to the government and National Assembly for the need for the projects and to devote every effort to securing funding.
The five key projects are the K-HBM-HBF Product Technology Development Center; the Physical AI-based AAR National Industrial Cluster; the Saemangeum Robot Farm Factory; Physical AI Robot Value Chain Venture Support; and the Physical AI Autonomous Integrated Logistics National Demonstration Center. Work will include developing next-generation memory, demonstrating autonomous aerial robots, advancing agricultural robot learning, nurturing ventures, and validating collaborative logistics involving multiple robots.
Jeonbuk State Governor Lee Won-taek said, “We will work closely with political circles and relevant institutions to help Jeonbuk emerge as a national hub for Physical AI that attracts companies and talent.”
