[Financial News] A woman who took cup noodles, snacks and other food meant for volunteers at an animal welfare group’s bazaar in Incheon was arrested by police. She reportedly packed the items into a large plastic bag she had brought in advance and, after being caught, claimed she thought they had been discarded.
According to JTBC’s “Scandal Supervisor” on the 3rd, the incident took place on the morning of October 31 at a bazaar hosted by an animal welfare group in Incheon.
CCTV footage from the scene showed a male representative carrying supplies and briefly setting down a box. A woman wearing a hat and mask then approached it.
Standing in front of the box, the woman looked around and checked what was inside. She then pulled a large plastic bag from inside her clothing and put cup noodles, cans of tuna, snacks and other items intended for volunteers into it, one after another.
The woman took items until the bag and plastic bag she had brought with her were full, then left the scene.
About 20 minutes after taking the items, the woman reappeared at the same location. The CCTV footage also showed her looking around.
According to representatives of the affected organization, the woman was later arrested by police. She reportedly told investigators that she had found items in the box while going around collecting empty bottles, as she regularly did, and had taken them.
However, the affected organization countered that the items were not in a condition that could have led anyone to mistake them for discarded goods. The tipster voiced frustration, saying, “They were clearly new products prepared for the event, and they were in no condition to be mistaken for trash.”
Panelists appearing on the program also criticized the act of taking items prepared for the volunteers. They emphasized, “It was an unconscionable act to steal items intended for volunteers working hard at an event held for a meaningful cause,” and “Those responsible must face appropriate legal consequences for this clear act of theft.”
