[Financial News] Cho Hyun-sang, vice chairman of HS Hyosung, stressed the importance of incorporating the views of businesses into international policy discussions at an event marking the 30th anniversary of Korea’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). As Korea’s director of the OECD’s Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC), he said he would strengthen cooperation between Korean industry and the OECD.
HS Hyosung said on the 4th that Cho attended the previous day and delivered congratulatory remarks at the dinner marking the 30th anniversary of Korea’s accession to the OECD, hosted by the Federation of Korean Industries at The Grand Lotte Seoul in Jung District, Seoul.
“As an OECD member, Korea has reached the true age of standing firm—the point at which it can set its own course and stand on its own,” Cho said. “The OECD’s corporate governance standards have served as important guides for the development and globalization of Korean companies.”
He went on to say, “The voices of businesses are important to realizing the OECD’s goal of ‘better policies for better lives,’” and noted the impact of changes in global trade rules and supply chains on domestic industries.
“As Korea’s director of BIAC, I will reflect the views of Korean industry in OECD policy discussions and further strengthen my role as a bridge for bringing the OECD’s policy achievements to businesses in Korea,” Cho said.
BIAC is an official advisory body that conveys the views of businesses and industry to OECD policy discussions. Cho was appointed to the BIAC board in 2021 and has served since.
Around 80 people attended the event, including senior OECD officials such as Deputy Secretary-General František Ružička, diplomatic representatives from 26 countries based in Korea, and leading Korean businesspeople. Attendees discussed Korea’s economic development over the 30 years since it joined the OECD and ways to expand international economic cooperation.
