[Financial News] Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. unveiled for the first time at BIXPO 2026 a model of a high-capacity 345-kV transmission cable it is jointly developing with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). It also showcased a 525-kV-class extra-high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) submarine cable that can be used in the West Coast Energy Expressway project.
Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. announced on the 4th that it is participating in the Bitgaram International Electric Power Technology Expo (BIXPO) 2026, being held from the 4th through the 6th at the Kim Daejung Convention Center in Gwangju. About 200 companies from Korea and abroad are taking part in the exhibition, hosted by KEPCO.
The cable being jointly developed with KEPCO is designed to increase transmission capacity compared with existing 345-kV-class extra-high-voltage cables. Its maximum conductor cross-sectional area has been increased from 2,500 mm2 to 3,200 mm2. The conductor cross-sectional area is 28% larger while the voltage rating remains at 345 kV. Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. expects that greater transmission capacity will reduce power grid construction costs and shorten construction timelines. Related materials, including cable joint boxes, are also under development.
Models of a 525-kV-class HVDC submarine cable and the submarine cable-laying vessels Taihan Connector and Palos were displayed at the front of the booth. Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. also provided updates on Submarine Cable Plant 1, which supplied cables to projects including the Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind farm, and Submarine Cable Plant 2, which is under construction with operations targeted to begin in 2027.
In the HVDC field, the company showcased an internationally certified 525-kV-class voltage-source HVDC cable system and an HVDC Test Center capable of testing cables rated up to 640 kV. After attending the opening ceremony that day, Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. President Kim Jun-seok discussed current issues in domestic and international power grid projects and ways to cooperate with representatives of key customers.
A Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. representative said, “This exhibition is a meaningful opportunity to showcase the technological expertise and project execution capabilities we have built up in submarine cables and HVDC,” adding, “We will proactively respond to key national power grid construction projects, including the West Coast Energy Expressway, and further strengthen our competitiveness in the global power infrastructure market through continued technological advancement.”
