[Financial News] Shinhan Bank received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy in recognition of its contributions to attracting foreign investment and providing financial support. Last year, the bank processed 1,500 foreign direct investment (FDI) filings, totaling $4.15 billion.
According to sources in the financial industry on the 4th, Shinhan Bank received a ministerial commendation for its contributions to attracting foreign investment at the 2026 Foreign Company Day event, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and held at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel on the 3rd.
Foreign Company Day is an event that recognizes companies and institutions that have contributed to the development of the national economy by attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and helping companies that expanded overseas return to Korea. That day, awards for contributions to attracting foreign investment were presented to foreign-invested companies, companies returning to Korea, support organizations and other contributors.
Shinhan Bank established a support system for foreign investment by launching Shinhan FDI Partners, the first dedicated organization in Korea’s financial sector for marketing and consulting to attract foreign investment. The bank was recognized for installing FDI Desks at major hubs such as Gangnam, Gangbuk and Yeouido and providing foreign-invested companies with on-site, one-stop financial services.
The bank also introduced services to make financial transactions more convenient for foreign-invested companies. It is the only financial institution to operate an MT101 remote service based on the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), allowing overseas headquarters to transfer funds directly from domestic accounts. In June, it launched an escrow service dedicated to foreign direct investment, enhancing the security of foreign-invested companies’ financial transactions.
A Shinhan Bank spokesperson said, “This award is the result of our efforts to build tailored financial solutions that provide practical support to foreign-invested companies and to establish a dedicated support system.” The spokesperson added, “We will continue to expand foreign investment through differentiated FDI services and innovative digital finance, and contribute to revitalizing the Korean economy.”
