[Financial News] The financial investment industry has launched a large-scale kimchi-making and sharing initiative for underserved neighbors.
The Korea Financial Investment Association said it jointly held the 16th Kimchi Fair of Love on the 4th at Yeouido Park in Seoul with financial investment companies—including securities firms, asset management firms and futures firms—as well as related organizations.
This year’s event drew about 1,000 executives and employees from 86 companies in the financial investment industry. Donations totaled about 390 million won, and the kimchi made for the event came to 80,000 kilograms (80 tons). The number of participants, donations and volume of kimchi were all the highest on record.
Representatives and employees of the participating companies added to the spirit of sharing by making kimchi themselves. The kimchi will be delivered to social welfare facilities and neighbors in need through ChildFund Korea, a child welfare organization.
Now in its 16th edition, the Kimchi Fair of Love began in 2011 to help underserved neighbors get through the winter. As participation by member companies and their employees grew, it became a flagship joint social contribution event for the financial investment industry.
The financial investment industry continues to pursue a range of social contribution activities, including livelihood support for vulnerable groups, scholarship programs and financial education. Recent efforts include providing regular contributions to Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) to help young people preparing for independent living build assets, as well as strengthening the financial capabilities of young people and older adults.
Hwang Sung-yup, chairman of the Korea Financial Investment Association, said, “The dedication of each company and the helping hands of employees have made it possible to share warmth with more neighbors.” He added, “We will continue to find and put into practice ways of giving that provide practical help to our neighbors, and strive to become a trusted financial investment industry that grows alongside society and shares the fruits of that growth with our neighbors.”
