[Financial News] Kolon Group will showcase hydrogen-related products ranging from materials and components for hydrogen fuel cells to hydrogen storage systems. Kolon Industries will exhibit humidity-control units and polymer electrolyte membranes, while Kolon Spaceworks will display hydrogen tanks and storage systems for commercial vehicles.
Kolon Group said it will participate in the World Hydrogen Expo 2026, held from the 4th to the 6th at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
Kolon Industries will exhibit a humidity-control unit that regulates moisture inside fuel cells. The unit helps fuel cells maintain optimal moisture levels, improving their performance and durability. Kolon Industries has supplied the product to global automakers since 2013, with cumulative sales exceeding 100,000 units.
The exhibition will also feature high-output, high-durability humidity-control units that can be used in emergency power generation, ships and trains, in addition to products for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The company will also showcase polymer electrolyte membranes and engineering plastics for hydrogen fuel cells. A polymer electrolyte membrane is a material that transports hydrogen ions inside a fuel cell while blocking the movement of electrons. Engineering plastics are used in mufflers and ion filters for hydrogen-powered vehicles, as well as in components inside hydrogen tanks.
Kolon Industries plans to expand the applications of its humidity-control units while also developing materials for water electrolysis processes that produce hydrogen by splitting water with electricity. In response to moves to regulate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), it also plans to develop hydrocarbon-based polymer electrolyte membranes and membrane electrode assemblies.
Kolon Spaceworks will exhibit towpreg, a carbon-fiber intermediate material, along with hydrogen storage vessels and hydrogen storage system modules. Towpreg is a material made by impregnating carbon fiber with epoxy resin and is used to enhance the strength and durability of hydrogen tanks.
After securing certification under Economic Commission for Europe regulations for its 54-liter hydrogen tank, Kolon Spaceworks obtained Korea Gas Safety Corporation certification in January for a large-capacity 177-liter hydrogen tank. It recently shipped its first 700-bar-class hydrogen storage system, jointly developed with Tata Daewoo Mobility. The vehicle module integrates hydrogen tanks, piping, valves and sensors, and will be used in hydrogen-engine trucks that Tata Daewoo Mobility is developing.
