[Financial News] Philip Morris Korea Inc. has been recognized for its contributions to addressing climate change and building a sustainable manufacturing environment.
According to industry sources on the 4th, Philip Morris Korea Inc.’s Yangsan plant in South Gyeongsang Province received a Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment commendation for its contribution to the development of the renewable energy industry at the 2026 Renewable Energy Day ceremony, held at COEX in Seoul on the 23rd of last month.
Designated a statutory commemorative day for the first time this year, Renewable Energy Day was established to raise awareness of the importance of expanding renewable energy and to promote the development of related industries.
Philip Morris Korea Inc.’s Yangsan plant has expanded its use of renewable energy under a systematic plan to implement RE100 (100% renewable energy use). After ramping up procurement from 2024, it switched 100% of the electricity used at the plant to renewable energy last year. The Korea Energy Agency also issued a certificate confirming the plant’s renewable energy use.
Harun Baser, head of Philip Morris Korea Inc.’s Yangsan plant, said, “This award is the result of the plant’s sustained efforts to create a sustainable manufacturing environment, including by transitioning to renewable energy. We will continue to make practical environmental improvements at our manufacturing sites and contribute to carbon neutrality and the expansion of renewable energy.”
Established in 2002, Philip Morris Korea Inc.’s Yangsan plant is Philip Morris International’s only facility in East Asia producing non-combustible products. Since its establishment, approximately $480 million has been invested cumulatively. It currently produces non-combustible products such as TEREA and SENTIA and supplies them to the domestic market.
