[Financial News] Korean American Marilyn Strickland (Kim Soon-ja), a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has secured a fourth term.
According to the U.S. Associated Press (AP), Representative Strickland ran as the Democratic candidate in Washington state’s 10th Congressional District in the U.S. midterm elections held on the 3rd (local time). She defeated her Republican opponent, Chris Jeong (Jeong Dong-bok), who is also Korean American, to secure victory.
Representative Strickland, who was born in Seoul to Willie Strickland, a Korean War veteran, and her Korean mother, Kim In-min, has drawn attention for defining her identity as ‘a woman who is half Korean and half Black.’ She also took the oath wearing a hanbok at the swearing-in ceremony in January 2021, when she first entered the House.
