Goodbye, Mom / Jeon Gyeong-cheol / Storyseller
[Financial News] A posthumous collection, Goodbye, Mom, by the late Jeon Gyeong-cheol, who cared alone for his mother with dementia and his son with severe autism, has been published. In his previous book, Goodbye, Peter Pan, Jeon chronicled the time he spent with his son; this time, he looks back on his mother's life.
Part 1, “Mother’s Days,” unfolds from the perspective of his mother, Kim Geon-sun. In place of his mother, whose memory was fading, Jeon brought back stories from the Korean War, the years she spent as the daughter-in-law of a head family, and the days she supported the family by running a hanbok shop.
Part 2, “The Last Days of Peter Pan’s Dad,” includes writings he left after being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. After searching for a place for his son to live, he envisioned a village called “Peter Pan’s Neverland,” where people with developmental disabilities could live with dignity even after their parents pass away. All of the author’s royalties will go toward establishing the Peter Pan Foundation.
