[Financial News] University students studying in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, can now gain advance experience in construction and facility safety work at a public institution and prepare for employment.
According to the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety on the 4th, its Chungcheong Regional Office signed an agreement with Kongju National University that day. The focus is on connecting university major-specific education with public-sector job training so that students educated at local universities can find work in the region.
Through the program, students can obtain information about public-sector recruitment and gain hands-on experience with the authority’s actual work, including safety management at construction sites and safety inspections of facilities. The two institutions say this will enable students to define their career paths more concretely and begin preparing for employment.
The authority is continuing to recruit young people this year. In its first job-based recruitment round for 2026, announced this past May, it recruited 57 people, including 16 experienced hires and 41 recruitment-track youth interns (entry-level). It also recruited staff at regional offices in the capital region (Goyang), Gangwon (Chuncheon), Chungcheong (Cheongju) and Honam (Gwangju), in addition to its headquarters in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province. For building safety and underground safety positions at its Jinju headquarters, it applied a 30% hiring target for talent from the region to which the headquarters had relocated. The agreement is significant in that the regional office is directly working with local universities to develop talent in the Chungcheong region, rather than in South Gyeongsang, where the headquarters is based.
“I hope this agreement will give students an opportunity to clarify their career paths and develop into practice-ready talent through specialized training and field-based learning at a public institution,” said Yang Nam-yeong, dean of student affairs at Kongju National University.
“We plan to actively support students so they can grow into experts in land and infrastructure safety,” said Oh Jong-sik, head of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety’s Chungcheong Regional Office.
