[Financial News] The restroom at Terminal 2 of Incheon International Airport was recognized for having facilities and service competitiveness among the best in the country. Its distinctive design, which offers views of aircraft taking off and landing, and amenities designed with a range of users in mind, including people with disabilities and families, received high praise. Incheon Airport plans to further improve facility-management efficiency and user convenience by introducing advanced technologies such as cleaning robots.
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 4th that the restroom at Terminal 2 had received the Presidential Award at the 28th Beautiful Restroom Awards ceremony, held at the Seoul Museum of History on the 3rd.
The Beautiful Restroom Awards is an annual event organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Toilet Culture Association to promote a clean and safe restroom culture. It selects outstanding facilities through a comprehensive assessment of factors such as comfort, convenience, safety, design, and quality of management.
The facility that received the Presidential Award this year is a restroom near Gate 225 in the duty-free area of Terminal 2 at Incheon Airport. Unlike typical airport restrooms, it is designed to let visitors watch aircraft take off and land through large windows.
The open layout, making use of large windows, and modern interior design allow visitors to experience the distinctive atmosphere of an airport. The restroom has been praised for setting itself apart as an amenity that reflects the airport’s spatial character, rather than serving merely as a hygiene facility.
The facility’s design, which takes people with reduced mobility into consideration, also scored highly. It includes accessible restrooms, family restrooms, and amenities for infants and young children, and incorporates universal design so that anyone can use it conveniently.
The space was designed to ensure that a range of users, including wheelchair users and families accompanied by infants and young children, can use the facilities safely. The airport was also recognized for having operated facility management and cleaning services with users’ needs at their center.
Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to expand improvements to amenities across the airport following this award. It will analyze user feedback and on-site operational data to identify areas for improvement, and plans to use advanced technologies such as cleaning robots to raise environmental-management standards and operational efficiency.
Young-min Bae, head of the Infrastructure Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, “Restrooms are not merely hygiene facilities; they are a key point of contact where airport users directly experience the cleanliness of the facilities and the level of service. We will continue to improve spaces and services from users’ perspective and work to deliver airport environmental services of the highest standard in the world, which everyone can use comfortably.”
