[Financial News] The Busan Port Construction Office, under the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, announced on the 4th that it had completed construction of the southern breakwater at Cheonseong Port, a national fishing port in Busan’s Gangseo District, and that it would be formally completed on the 5th.
Design work began in March 2021, and the project created a 212.5-meter southern breakwater, two public restrooms certified as barrier-free, and a waterfront area, at a total cost of approximately 25 billion won.
The southern breakwater, the project’s core facility, blocks waves (wind waves and swell) coming in from the open sea, helping ensure calm conditions within the harbor (a calm water surface in the anchorage) and prevent damage to fishing vessels.
It also provided barrier-free certified public restrooms and a waterfront area, creating a pleasant fishing-port environment that everyone, including socially disadvantaged people, can conveniently visit.
The Busan Port Construction Office expects the project to go beyond simply expanding fishing-port facilities by strengthening the livelihood base of fishers and, as more visitors come thanks to improved safety and convenience, bringing positive effects to the fishing-village economy, including revitalizing local businesses.
Jang Gi-mun, head of the Port Maintenance Division at the Busan Port Construction Office, said, “The completion of the southern breakwater at Cheonseong Port has laid the groundwork for fishers to go out to work with greater peace of mind,” adding, “We will continue to create a safe and pleasant fishing-port environment through the ongoing maintenance and management of fishing-port facilities.”
