[Financial News] Shinsegae Department Store is expanding its range of products and services that are difficult to find in traditional department store locations—including supercars, custom kitchens and rare spirits—through its VIP-only curation platform, ‘The Showcase.’
According to industry sources on the 4th, Shinsegae Department Store has offered cars, alcoholic beverages, traditional crafts and custom space consulting through its department store app since launching The Showcase in November 2024. This year, average spend per customer on The Showcase has topped 100 million won, rising to about five times last year’s 20 million won.
Supercars are a prime example. Just three months after partnering with Lamborghini Seoul this year, Shinsegae Department Store had sold more than 10 vehicles, generating over 6 billion won in sales. The vehicles sold included the flagship Lamborghini Revuelto, priced at more than 1.1 billion won. The company says it differentiated the purchasing process by combining VIP-only test drives with private events.
It also successfully tapped demand for high-end residential spaces. Cucinella, Shinsegae Casa’s kitchen brand introduced through The Showcase in October, offers a service in which dedicated custom-designers manage everything from planning—such as layouts and storage options—to installation, through one-on-one consultations. Shinsegae Department Store said it had received around 100 consultation inquiries since Cucinella launched, and that quotes for about half of those customers reached 300 million won.
Alcoholic beverages and traditional crafts have also become key product categories. The Chiso Edition whisky, introduced for the first time anywhere in the world in September in collaboration with Suntory, sold out its entire prepared stock within two days of going on sale. Under an MOU with the Korea Heritage Service, the company is also showcasing craftworks by transmitters of National Intangible Heritage traditions, including lacquerware artisans (Chiljang), mother-of-pearl inlay artisans (Najeonjang) and Nakhwajang (traditional Korean pyrography artisans).
“VIP customers place greater value on products that reflect their individual tastes and lifestyles, as well as on differentiated experiences,” said Lee Seong-hwan, executive vice president in charge of sales strategy at Shinsegae Department Store. “We will continue to expand product curation and personalized services through The Showcase, and develop it into a platform that offers VIP customers even more special experiences.”
