[Financial News] An academic forum to explore ways and strategies for Busan to emerge as a global fisheries hub has been organized at BEXCO.
Busan City said the 21st Busan Fisheries Policy Forum would be held at BEXCO’s Exhibition Hall 1 on the afternoon of the 4th.
The forum was organized to examine global trends in seafood logistics in response to changes in the global seafood supply chain and discuss ways to establish a hub for seafood distribution and trade in Northeast Asia. The incorporated association Busan Fisheries Policy Forum is hosting and organizing the event, with support from Busan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), and Pukyong National University.
The forum will feature an opening ceremony, a keynote address, topic presentations and a plenary discussion. It will address ways to expand seafood supply chains and strengthen international logistics competitiveness.
First, Professor Kim Bong-tae of Pukyong National University will deliver a keynote address on “Global Trends in Seafood Logistics,” examining changes in international supply chains. Next, Lee Seong-woo, a senior research fellow at the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), will present on “Ways to Strengthen Seafood Supply Chains to Build a Northeast Asian Fish Hub.”
The plenary discussion will be moderated by Kang Jun-seok, a distinguished professor at Korea Maritime and Ocean University and former president of the Busan Port Authority (BPA), with six experts from government, the city, research institutions and industry participating as discussants. Yang Yeong-jin, the MOF’s director-general for fisheries policy; Hong Sun-heon, the city’s special advisor for policy coordination; and Ma Chang-mo, head of KMI’s Fisheries Research Division, will discuss policy tasks for expanding seafood supply chains and establishing a logistics hub.
Side events linked to the forum are also planned. From the 4th through the 6th, a Fisheries Policy Forum pavilion will operate at the Busan International Seafood & Fisheries EXPO at BEXCO, along with a promotional event for Busan’s high-quality seafood.
Shim Jaemin, head of the city’s Maritime Capital Strategy Office, said, “This forum is a meaningful opportunity for industry, academia, research and government to come together amid a rapidly changing international trade environment and jointly seek a sustainable future for Busan’s fisheries industry and strategies for international supply chains. We will work closely with relevant institutions and industry so that Busan, Korea’s maritime capital, can emerge as a central hub for international fisheries logistics and trade, and I will do my utmost to provide policy support.”
