[Financial News] Fermentation Workshop 1991 promoted K-fermentation food culture by inviting a Japanese Korean-food columnist and a gourmet tour group to take part in traditional liquor and fermented-sauce experiences.
According to industry sources on the 4th, Hatta Yasushi, a Japanese columnist covering Korean food, and a Japanese gourmet tour group visited the brewery operated by Fermentation Workshop 1991, an agricultural corporation of Kyochon F&B Co., Ltd., in Yeongyang County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on the 3rd to experience Korea’s traditional fermented food culture.
The visit was part of the “2026 Manbok Tour with Hatta Yasushi: Gyeongsangbuk-do Edition,” organized jointly by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). The group of 25 Japanese tourists visited Fermentation Workshop 1991 as part of an itinerary exploring the history and cuisine of Andong, Mungyeong and Yeongyang in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Hatta Yasushi is a Korean-cuisine expert who has explored food culture across Korea for more than 20 years and has published columns in major Japanese media. In the recently published book, “The World of Korean Cuisine: Gyeongsang-do,” Hatta introduces the region’s food culture and specialties from Yeongyang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Participants sampled Fermentation Workshop 1991’s premium takju (unfiltered rice wine), Eunhasu Makgeolli, and its traditional fermented sauces, “Gudeul,” while learning about traditional fermentation methods. They then attended a lecture on the history of traditional Korean liquor and the brand.
A representative of Fermentation Workshop 1991 said, “This visit was a meaningful opportunity to introduce Japanese tourists, who are highly interested in Korean food culture, to the appeal of traditional liquor and fermented sauces reflecting Kyochon’s fermentation philosophy, as well as the history of a century-old brewery.” The representative added, “We will continue to expand experiential programs centered on traditional liquor so that Fermentation Workshop 1991 can establish itself as a leading tourism hub in Yeongyang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.”
