Jeong Jeom-sig: “The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) convention was a massive fraud; Kim Min-seok must resign immediately”

[Financial News] On the 4th, People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig called on Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), to resign immediately as party leader. Jeong said Kim should take responsibility for raising allegations during the Aug. 17 convention of a “secret three-way alliance of anti-Lee forces, factionalists and Shincheonji,” only for Kim to say at the party’s lawmakers’ meeting on the 3rd that there was no evidence.
Jeong said on social media (SNS), “Last August’s DPK convention was a massive fraud,” adding, “President Lee Jae Myung openly backed candidate Kim Min-seok with an unrealistic policy for a semiconductor cluster in Honam, and candidate Kim won the convention by spreading the theory of a secret alliance with Shincheonji.”
Jeong said, “What did candidate Kim say at the time? He said, ‘The essence of the convention is to break up the three-way secret alliance of anti-Lee forces, factionalists and Shincheonji.’ But yesterday (the 3rd), Kim said at the DPK lawmakers’ meeting that there was no evidence of a three-way secret alliance with Shincheonji. He is said to have apologized to lawmakers in tears. This is not something that can simply be brushed aside as a melodramatic display of tears.”
Jeong argued, “There can only be one of two reasons why the ‘essence’ of the convention that Kim Min-seok spoke of turned into ‘tears’ in the lawmakers’ meeting room. First, as former party leader Jung Chung-rae put it, Kim engaged in political maneuvering. The second is that the secret alliance with Shincheonji is real, but there is some other reason it can never be made public.”
Jeong said, “An investigation is inevitable in either case. If the claim of a secret alliance with Shincheonji is false, the police should immediately investigate Kim on suspicion of spreading false information. Conversely, if a secret alliance with Shincheonji within the DPK is real, the police should investigate the DPK.”
He went on to call on President Lee to take political responsibility, saying, “President Lee was also the one who raised his voice at a New Year’s press conference last January, saying that collusion between religion and politics ‘must be rooted out’ and ordering an investigation into the allegations. He should once again order a probe by a joint police-prosecution investigation team into the allegations of a secret alliance between the DPK and Shincheonji.”
Jeong said, “Separate from the investigation, Kim should resign immediately. If the theory of a secret alliance with Shincheonji was false, he brazenly spread false information, which in itself warrants his retirement from politics. If the allegations were true, deciding at the lawmakers’ meeting to cover them up would amount to concealing a crime, and his retirement from politics would likewise be warranted.”
