[Financial News] Vice President Lee Hee-song of SGC E&C received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his contributions to pioneering overseas plant markets and expanding orders. His achievements were recognized, including leading overseas orders worth about $4.01 billion (approximately 5.3772 trillion won) through large-scale projects in the Middle East and Southeast Asia for about 30 years.
According to SGC E&C on the 4th, Lee Hee-song, head of its Plant Business Division, received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the ceremony marking 2026 Overseas Construction and Plant Day, held on the 3rd at Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The event was organized to honor those who have contributed to the development of the overseas construction industry and to share a vision for its future. First held in 2005, it has taken place every other year, and a total of 14 people are receiving government awards this year.
The vice president has spent about 30 years in overseas plant projects, leading efforts to break into markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In particular, from SGC E&C’s first entry into Saudi Arabia in 2009, he carried out local projects and built a foundation for winning contracts.
Building on his project experience in the field, he also set out to develop emerging hubs, extending overseas orders built up primarily in the Middle East into Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and Malaysia.
In Saudi Arabia, the vice president pursued projects including expansions of ethylene and propylene production facilities; an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) production facility; and the construction of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and propane dehydrogenation/polypropylene (PDH/PP) plants.
In Malaysia, he went on to carry out projects in petrochemicals and advanced materials, including epichlorohydrin (ECH) and chlor-alkali (CA) production facilities and the construction of a polysilicon plant for semiconductor use, broadening the company’s overseas order portfolio.
Building on these achievements, SGC E&C ranked among the top 10 in the industrial and environmental facilities category of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “2025 Comprehensive Construction Business Evaluation,” demonstrating its plant project execution capabilities and competitiveness.
“I will contribute to the company’s sustained growth based on the experience and know-how I have accumulated 30 years devoted to the construction industry,” said SGC E&C Vice President Lee Hee-song. “Going forward, I will continue to play a leading role in making Korea’s plant industry prowess leave an overwhelming impression as a global top-tier plant company.”
