[Financial News] Six in ten voters in the U.S. midterm elections held on the 3rd (local time) opposed the way U.S. President Donald Trump was running the country, The Associated Press reported.
According to the AP Voter Poll conducted by The Associated Press and polling firm SSRS in conjunction with the midterm elections, about six in ten voters said they disapproved of the way President Trump was running the country.
AP reported, “Voters are in a mood for change, and the survey found that about three-quarters said they were angry or dissatisfied with the direction the country is heading.”
It also said, “Most voters appear to blame the Trump administration for high prices,” explaining that six in ten respondents said high prices were due to Trump’s policies rather than factors outside his control.
The survey found that about 70% of voters wanted Congress to exercise stronger checks and balances on the presidency.
The issues voters focused on most were the economy (40%) and democracy (30%).
The AP Voter Poll combines pre-election polling with surveys conducted on Election Day to analyze voters’ voting preferences, perceptions of key issues, evaluations of candidates, and more. Details about candidate choices are released after polls close in each area, and the results are also used by AP to call winners.
In the United States, AP’s calls of winners are widely treated as the de facto election results by many media outlets and political circles, even though official certification of the vote count can take several weeks.
