[Financial News] A 7-month-old infant who was at risk of breathing difficulties after a wet-wipe wrapper became stuck in their throat arrived safely at the emergency room thanks to an emergency ride in a police patrol car and drivers making way.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, at around 1:23 p.m. on the 3rd of last month, a 112 call was received from Seoul’s Dongdaemun District: “A wet-wipe wrapper is stuck in my child’s throat. We need to get to the emergency room quickly.”
A request was made at the time for a joint response with the 119 fire service, but all ambulances available for dispatch in the area had already been sent to other scenes.
After confirming that no ambulance was available for dispatch, officers from the Seoul Dongdaemun Police Station immediately sent two patrol cars to the scene. Given the urgency, the officers who arrived decided to transport the child and guardian directly to the emergency room at a nearby university hospital in a patrol car.
The child and guardian rode in one patrol car, while the other led the way and cleared a route for them.
It was a weekend, and a festival was also being held in the area that day, causing severe traffic congestion in many places. When the patrol car began driving under emergency conditions with its siren on, drivers on the road moved their cars to either side to clear a route for the urgent transport.
With the public’s cooperation, the patrol car cut through the traffic and quickly reached the emergency room at Hanyang University Hospital in Seoul’s Seongdong District.
After the child completed treatment, the guardian returned home safely, then visited a police substation to thank the officers who had responded at the scene.
