[Financial News] The European Commission will convene senior officials from major allies, including the United States and Ukraine, for a meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on the 4th (local time) to discuss Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction and security cooperation.
According to foreign media outlets including Politico on the 3rd, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho told reporters in Brussels that day, “The European Commission will host a meeting on the 4th attended by representatives of Ukraine, the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as NATO and the World Bank.”
The meeting was arranged as a continuation of high-level talks between the United States and Ukraine held earlier in Miami, Florida. Senior EU officials, including those at the level of national security advisers, are expected to attend. International organizations such as NATO and the World Bank will also take part, with discussions set to focus on a fair and lasting end to the war in Ukraine and economic support for postwar reconstruction.
The meeting is drawing particular attention because it will take place just ahead of trilateral working-level talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine, scheduled for the 10th and 11th in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov of Russia previously confirmed that the Abu Dhabi trilateral talks would address in earnest the end of Russia’s war in Ukraine, postwar security agreements, measures to ease tensions and other issues.
As Western allies gather in Brussels to coordinate the framework for support to Ukraine and postwar security, the meeting is expected to have a significant impact on the outcome of the upcoming trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi.
