[Financial News] Veteran kt wiz hitter Hyun-soo Kim set a new record for the most career total bases in the postseason (PS), then launched a spectacular homer to celebrate.
Kim started at first base and batted fifth in Game 1 of the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO PS Korean Series (KS, best-of-seven) against the Samsung Lions at Suwon kt wiz park on the 3rd. He had a strong game, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
Kim had been tied with Hong Seong-heun for the most career postseason total bases, with 149 before the game. In his second plate appearance, in the bottom of the third, he singled to center to reach 150 and take sole possession of first place on the all-time list.
Kim didn't stop there: he also belted a homer to celebrate setting the postseason total-bases record. With kt wiz leading 6-0, he hit a two-run homer over the right-field wall in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and a runner on first, driving a 134-km/h fastball from Samsung's fourth pitcher, Im Ki-young, on the second pitch. It was his 12th career postseason homer and his fourth in the Korean Series.
Kim, who helped the LG Twins win the combined championship last year and was named Korean Series MVP, signed a three-year free-agent deal worth 5 billion won in total with kt wiz before this season and moved to the club. After kt wiz won the regular-season title and advanced directly to the Korean Series, this game marked Kim's first postseason appearance since joining the team. With a hit and a home run on the day, he raised his career total to 154 bases and showed why he is called the “Autumn Giant.”
Kim did not play the entire game, however. With no outs and runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, he made a diving stop on Kim Young-woong's ground ball, then felt pain while fielding and was immediately replaced by defensive substitute Oh Yun-seok.
A KT club official said, “Hyun-soo Kim felt pain in his left thumb after sliding while fielding in the top of the seventh, but the substitution was simply to protect the player, and there are no plans for a hospital examination.” He is therefore expected to have no major issues with his availability going forward.
