On the 3rd, according to the MCST, Minister Choi met with Lee Won-taek, governor of Jeonbuk State, that afternoon at MMCA Seoul in Jongno District, Seoul, and discussed issues related to the Olympic bid.
Jeonbuk State decided to discuss co-hosting with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to strengthen its competitiveness in the bid. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has also said it would actively cooperate in discussions on joint hosting.
Minister Choi emphasized that, given the host city selection schedule announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the two local governments need to reach an agreement swiftly.
The IOC plans to shortlist some of the regions seeking to host the Games next March and begin a “strategic dialogue.” It plans to select the final host at its session in mid-2029.
Minister Choi said that once Jeonbuk State and Seoul have finalized an agreement to co-host, he would support the MCST and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) in promptly carrying out the necessary procedures.
