[Financial News] The DPK elected 10 national committee chairs on the 3rd, including the chair of the Euljiro Committee for the Protection of People’s Livelihood. Five of those elected are sitting lawmakers, including Min Byeong-deok, who heads the Euljiro Committee. The women’s committee chairmanship, which carries influence over nominations, went to Kim Nam-hee, a lawmaker aligned with President Lee Jae Myung.
The DPK released the list of 10 national committee chairs that day. Separate simultaneous votes were held for each committee among delegates and party members with voting rights. Online voting took place on the 1st, followed by voting via an automated response system (ARS) on the 2nd and 3rd.
First, pro-Lee lawmaker Min Byeong-deok was reelected as chair of the Euljiro Committee. He was elected in a yes-or-no vote, with no challenger.
The Small Business Committee chairmanship, which lawmaker Oh Se-hee had sought to retain, went to Lee Seung-hoon, an outsider to the National Assembly and a former policy expert with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. He won the party primary.
Pro-Lee lawmaker Kim Nam-hee was elected women’s committee chair, defeating lawmaker Moon Jeong-bog, a pro-Jung Chung-rae figure who previously served on the party’s Supreme Council.
The Youth Committee chair also went to pro-Lee lawmaker Kim Dong-ah. Pro-Lee lawmakers Geumju Moon and Park Jung-hyun were also reelected as chairs of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee and the Social Solidarity Economy Committee, respectively, in yes-or-no votes.
In addition, Labor Committee Chair Choi Cheol-ho was reelected in a yes-or-no vote. Former lawmaker Lee Sang-ok won the Senior Citizens Committee chairmanship, Lee Dong-won, former senior vice chair of the University Student Committee, won the University Student Committee chairmanship, and Park Ho-seok, president of the Korea Table Tennis Association for the Disabled, won the Disability Committee chairmanship in contested elections.
