[Financial News] The Russian government has confirmed that it will hold trilateral peace talks with the United States and Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month. The talks will be the first trilateral meeting since February.
According to the Russian TASS news agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said at a media briefing on the 3rd (local time), regarding peace negotiations over Ukraine, “A Russian delegation is scheduled to attend trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on the 10th and 11th.”
The previous day, U.S. presidential special envoy for peace Steve Witkoff posted on social media platform X, claiming that the three countries were set to meet in Abu Dhabi. He explained, “The negotiations will focus on the postwar security framework, de-escalation, humanitarian aid efforts, and next steps toward peace.”
The last trilateral peace talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine were held in Geneva, Switzerland, in February. The three countries discussed the issue of territory in eastern Ukraine and the safety of nuclear power plants, but halted negotiations for about nine months after the United States launched the Iran war that same month.
Peskov said Vladimir Medinsky, who previously headed the delegation for negotiations to end the war, is expected to lead it again this time. He added that the delegation is usually given instructions by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin reportedly met with Witkoff, who visited Russia on the 21st of last month, and agreed to resume trilateral talks.
