[Financial News] GC Wellbeing is moving to establish its own production facilities for fillers and skin boosters. Its strategy is to expand into medical aesthetics the sterile manufacturing technology and quality-control capabilities it has built up in its prescription drug business, strengthening its production competitiveness and diversifying its business portfolio.
GC Wellbeing said on the 3rd that it held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 2nd for a medical device manufacturing facility at GC Biopharma Corp.’s factory site in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province.
The new facility will serve as an in-house manufacturing base for fillers and skin boosters and is planned to include production lines for prefilled syringes (PFS), which are filled with medication in advance, as well as quality-testing facilities. It will also include space for expansion to accommodate production of new products.
With this investment, GC Wellbeing plans to reduce its reliance on external manufacturing and improve product quality and supply stability. It expects an in-house production system to also help it manage production costs and improve profitability.
GC Wellbeing has so far focused its prescription drug business on the placental injection Lynec and nutritional injections, among other products. It plans to apply the sterile manufacturing technology and experience operating Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards for pharmaceuticals that it has developed in this work to the new medical device production facility.
The company will also expand its product range with next-generation skin boosters currently in development. It plans to manufacture new products as they are commercialized at the new facility, strengthening its competitiveness in the domestic market and laying the groundwork for overseas expansion.
Construction is targeted for completion in the second quarter of 2027. After that, the company plans to begin full-scale production following trial production and the necessary regulatory approval procedures.
GC Wellbeing CEO Kim Sang-hyun said, “Drawing on the manufacturing technology and quality-control capabilities we have built up in the prescription drug sector, we will establish a production system that allows us to manage product quality directly.”
