[Financial News] The National Pension Service (NPS), the biggest player in South Korea’s capital markets, has dismissed the head of the Real Estate Investment Office at its Fund Management Headquarters.
The individual had a track record of success at ONE GROVE in Seoul’s Magok district, Tower 535 in Hong Kong and CIBC Square in Toronto, Canada, among other properties. The head of the Infrastructure Investment Office is currently also handling the duties of the head of the Real Estate Investment Office.
According to investment banking (IB) industry sources on the 3rd, NPS placed A, head of the Real Estate Investment Office, on standby last July and decided to dismiss A after holding a disciplinary committee meeting in the middle of last month.
A graduated from the Department of Real Estate at Konkuk University and earned a master’s degree in real estate from Cornell University in the United States. A handled real estate finance and investment at Samsung Life Insurance, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Wells Fargo Bank. A later served as head of the Alternative Investment Division at Samsung Securities and as a vice president at Ido, a comprehensive environmental services company. The term was originally set to run until June next year.
In 2024, during A’s tenure, NPS resumed making commitments to domestic real estate fund managers after a gap of about five years. Through last year, it pursued commitment programs totaling 1.85 trillion won across loan, core platform and value-add strategies. It expanded commitment opportunities beyond large asset managers to include small and mid-sized firms.
