Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho said this at an expanded senior officials’ meeting held in the conference room of the Dongin Government Building on the 3rd, and called for “all efforts to be focused on the National Assembly to expedite construction of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk (TK) New Airport and turn it into a state-led project.”
He added, “Under the consistent principle that the new airport should be built as a state project, we must focus on finding ways to ease the inconvenience for residents,” and stressed, “Until this regular session of the National Assembly ends, make frequent visits to lawmakers’ offices as well as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Planning and Budget, and the Ministry of National Defense, and make every effort to explain the need for state-led construction and the rationale for the project.”
He particularly reiterated, “Devote considerable time and effort during this session of the National Assembly to resolving issues related to new airport construction.”
He urged each bureau and department to work closely with the National Assembly and lawmakers’ offices to support the National Assembly’s budget review and secure passage of bills related to local issues, and to coordinate closely as soon as a National Assembly base camp for securing funding is set up, in order to deliver tangible results.
Mayor Choo said, “Close cooperation with the Daegu Metropolitan Council is very important for the smooth administration of city affairs,” and instructed, “Matters requiring the council’s cooperation, such as the budget and ordinances, should be thoroughly explained and that cooperation sought on an ongoing basis.”
He also spoke about the dignity and responsibility expected of the fire service, which enjoys a high level of public trust.
Mayor Choo said, “The public is deeply grateful to firefighters for putting themselves at risk and dedicating themselves to protecting the lives and safety of citizens,” and urged, “Especially at times like this, I hope the Fire Safety Headquarters will carefully ensure that each firefighter acts with a strong sense of responsibility and dignity.”
Mayor Choo concluded by emphasizing the importance of trust in public officials and expressing his ambition to make Daegu’s civil service organization one of the best in the nation.
He said, “Cut unnecessary and inefficient work decisively, while carrying out the work that must be done with greater speed and thoroughness,” adding, “As mayor, my greatest goal and wish is for Daegu City Hall to become a strong organization that is the most energetic, highly capable, and brimming with drive and responsibility in the nation.”
