[Financial News] ‘Contract Marriage’ cast member Choi Jeong-hyeon, Young-soo from Season 32 of ‘I Am Solo,’ has sparked outrage among viewers after footage showed him illegally filming the daily life of his virtual wife, Jeong Min-hyeon, who appears as Gukhwa on ‘Nasol Sagye.’ In particular, questions are being raised about cast protection and privacy violations after the production team aired the footage as is.
In the sixth episode of ‘Contract Marriage,’ which aired on the 2nd, Choi Jeong-hyeon and Jeong Min-hyeon were shown coming into conflict after she caught him filming her without her prior consent.
That day, after their dinner date, the two returned to their newlywed home and spent some time having a drink together.
Choi Jeong-hyeon expressed his affection for Jeong Min-hyeon, saying, “Since when have you been this cute? Since you were born?” While talking about a ring, he also naturally intertwined his fingers with hers.
But the sweet mood quickly turned icy. Choi Jeong-hyeon acted suspiciously, repeatedly checking his phone as they talked. As he tried to divert his wife’s attention, he soon began fiddling with a small camera set up on the desk. Seeing this, Jeong Min-hyeon asked, “Why are you touching that?”
Choi Jeong-hyeon gave an awkward laugh and said, “Since you’ve seen it, I’ll tell you: this is mine. I filmed a few things to keep.” It turned out that while Jeong Min-hyeon was cooking, he had set up his own camera and had been filming their daily life for about two days.
Choi Jeong-hyeon explained, “You’re upset because I did it without asking first, right? I just filmed it as a keepsake.” Jeong Min-hyeon took issue with his failure to ask for consent beforehand, saying, “If you were going to film, shouldn’t you have told me? Are you going to be a YouTuber?”
But Choi Jeong-hyeon failed to grasp how serious the situation was and joked, “You’re really sensitive.” When Jeong Min-hyeon became stern and said, “I think we need to talk about this,” he apologized: “I’ll delete everything. I was wrong. I didn’t think it through.”
Jeong Min-hyeon demanded, “I don’t feel good about this. I want you to delete it all in front of me.” The two watched the recorded footage together and then deleted it. Jeong Min-hyeon also took the memory card herself, and later went to bed without continuing the conversation.
In an interview with the production team, Jeong Min-hyeon also expressed her displeasure, saying, “By my standards, even if someone wants to film, I think they should tell me before setting up the camera,” and “The fact that he filmed for two days without saying anything made me wonder if he was someone who thought differently from me.” She added, “I wondered whether I should have to explain even something like this,” and said, “I even wondered if I could live with someone so odd.”
Immediately after the broadcast, comments criticizing Choi Jeong-hyeon’s behavior poured into the comments section of the related video and the viewer message board. Viewers wrote, “Hidden-camera filming is unequivocally a crime,” “It’s so creepy that he secretly filmed her and intended to keep the footage for himself,” and “He’s the one in the wrong, so is it right for him to call the other person oversensitive?”
There is also intense anger at the production team for airing potentially problematic footage as is, and at the studio hosts for playing it down by suggesting it was for a “surprise event” or “wedding video.”
‘Contract Marriage’ is a marriage-simulation observational reality show in which men and women seeking marriage experience married life in advance through a contract and, in the process, explore the meaning of marriage and what a realistic partnership entails. It is a new show from producer Nam Gyu-hong, who directed ‘I Am Solo.’
