[Financial News] A failure of the Ministry of Justice's Immigration Pre-Check System (IPC) caused disruption at airports nationwide, with flights delayed for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 3rd, that is what happened. The ministry's IPC experienced a problem at around 6:05 a.m., leaving airline check-in counters at airports nationwide that are linked to the system unable to operate. The IPC was restored at around 7:25 a.m. The system receives passenger information from airlines and checks in real time whether passengers are eligible to depart before their boarding passes are issued.
The Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreigners Office instructed each airline to issue boarding passes manually at around 6:20 a.m., just 15 minutes after the system failure. Some congestion occurred as airline staff checked passenger information themselves, and at Incheon International Airport, the resulting disruption delayed the departures of nine flights.
Some suspect the outage occurred after the database (DB) server was accessed during the replacement of aging storage for the border management system. A Ministry of Justice official said, "We are investigating the cause of the issue."
Meanwhile, at Incheon International Airport, an outage affecting some airlines' check-in systems on the 30th of last month halted check-in for about 13 hours and delayed flights, inconveniencing around 1,200 passengers.
