With Moving Wall, however, a space can be used independently when working from home or when children need a place to study. When the family wants to spend time together, the walls can be moved to create a spacious living room.
Moving Wall comes in several configurations: the “Wide Dining–Alpha Room” type, which allows users to choose between a dining area and a separate work or study space; the “Hidden Kitchen” type, which can conceal the kitchen when needed; the “Wide Living–Alpha Room” type, which offers a spacious living room and a separate alpha room for use as the situation calls for; and the “Room-in-Room” type, which creates a separate space within a bedroom.
Moving Wall uses precision motion-control technology to move the furniture unit horizontally without a separate track. The system detects and corrects in real time any side-to-side deviation or slight misalignment during movement, enabling stable operation even in tight spaces.
GS E&C plans to pursue integration with “AI Home,” which it is co-developing with LG Electronics. It will expand control options, including voice commands, and, in the long term, add a function that automatically reconfigures spaces to match residents’ lifestyle patterns. A GS E&C representative said, “With Moving Wall, we will provide a new residential experience and continue to create distinctive value unique to Xi that people can experience in their everyday lives.”
Moving Wall also incorporates technology from Robotom, a company specializing in robotics-enabled furniture. Robotom is a venture company backed by Xplo Investment, a subsidiary of GS E&C.
