[Financial News] Media group NEW’s affiliate NEW ID is expanding beyond FAST, an ad-supported free streaming service, into live sports and distribution through TV operating systems (OS). The company plans to broaden its role from supplying content overseas to becoming a global content distribution infrastructure company that also handles programming, transmission, viewing data management and ad monetization.
According to NEW on the 3rd, NEW ID has unveiled its global content operations results as it marks its seventh anniversary. K-content operated across 34 platforms in 96 countries worldwide has accumulated more than 840 million hours of viewing. According to cumulative figures from its proprietary PLAYOUT+ operating system as of October this year, viewing sessions reached 1.4 billion.
Founded in 2019 as an in-house venture of NEW, NEW ID entered the FAST market and has continued to expand direct operating agreements with global media platforms. Viewing data by country forms the basis for content programming and distribution strategies. According to NEW ID, viewing hours rose eightfold in India and threefold in Australia compared with the same period a year earlier, while they doubled in Europe and Canada.
It has also begun live sports broadcasts. Last September, it launched EASL TV, the official FAST channel of the East Asia Super League (EASL), in 15 countries across North America, Europe and Latin America through LG Channels. It has been broadcasting live games since October. The KBS WORLD channel has also expanded its service area to Europe, Latin America and elsewhere through LG Channels.
It has also moved to expand its distribution network through TV operating systems (OS). A TV OS is software that allows users to access apps and streaming services on smart TVs. Content companies partner with OS providers to supply content to those TVs.
NEW ID expanded its service area to 41 countries through Titan OS, a European TV operating system installed on multiple TV brands, including Philips. It also added four FAST channels to Xiaomi’s free streaming service, Xiaomi TV+.
In North America, it is working through the onboarding process to supply the first Korean drama channel to VIZIO’s free streaming service, WatchFree+. It has also signed a content supply agreement with TiVo OS. In Taiwan, it partnered with a local operator to develop an integrated operating model covering channel transmission and programming, metadata management and ad monetization.
