[Financial News] The Korea Federation of Banks will provide white rice worth 500 million won to about 33,000 vulnerable households nationwide at year-end.
According to the financial sector on the 3rd, the Korea Federation of Banks plans to deliver white rice to vulnerable households through the Bank Love Sharing Network, a project it is carrying out with the Korean Red Cross.
The Bank Love Sharing Network is a social contribution program run by the Korea Federation of Banks and the Korean Red Cross since 2006 and now in its 21st year. It provides households facing financial hardship with basic necessities. Including this year's program, support from the banking sector has reached around 440,000 households nationwide, totaling 14.1 billion won.
The Korea Federation of Banks is also running an online campaign to allow the public to take part directly in donating. It plans to hold the “Anyone Can DiY Donation Campaign” throughout November on BANKiT, the banking sector's social contribution platform.
Launched in 2022 and marking its fifth year this year, the campaign allows the banking sector to set aside the corresponding amount as a donation when participants complete simple activities online. With the launch of the BANKiT mobile app last year, people can now participate on mobile as well as on the website.
When participants tap “Like” or “Share” in the online fundraising box, 10,000 won is credited for each action; writing a comment credits 20,000 won from banking-sector funds. If the target of 500 million won is reached, the Korea Federation of Banks plans to deliver an equivalent value of white rice to vulnerable households nationwide through the Korean Red Cross.
Korea Federation of Banks Chairman Cho Yong-byoung said, “I hope the sharing by the banking sector, which has continued for 21 years, will bring warmth to neighbors in need again this year,” adding, “The Korea Federation of Banks will continue to fulfill its social responsibility alongside banks and steadily expand participatory giving with the public.”
