[Financial News] Despite having the enormous safety net of an 11-year deal worth 30.7 billion won, interest from the United States is gradually heating up in Hanwha Eagles slugger Roh Si-hwan, who has chosen a difficult challenge.
MLB’s official website has taken a close look at his chances of reaching the big leagues, going so far as to name specific potential destinations.
On the 1st (local time), the U.S. Major League Baseball official website MLB.com featured “the next generation of KBO stars dreaming of reaching the majors” in an analysis by reporter Michael Clair, and put Roh Si-hwan’s name front and center.
What is particularly striking is the four potential destinations MLB.com specifically named.
The outlet named the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners and LA Angels as teams that would suit Roh Si-hwan. The inclusion of the New York Yankees, regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious franchises, is enough to capture the attention of Korean baseball fans.
The Yankees are indeed struggling with a lack of offensive production at third base. Ryan McMahon, their starting third baseman in the 2026 season, posted an OPS of 0.635 and an adjusted OPS+ of 76, an offensive output 24% below the league average. For the Yankees, who desperately need a third baseman with power, Roh Si-hwan could be an attractive option.

Roh Si-hwan’s biggest weapon is his power.
He has cemented his place as a KBO slugger by hitting 116 home runs over the past four years: 29 this season, 31 in 2023, 24 in 2024 and 32 in 2025.
An anonymous local scout quoted by MLB.com also gave a positive assessment, saying, “Roh Si-hwan is a third baseman with the kind of power that can play in the major leagues.”
But the outlook is not all rosy. The local scout acknowledged his strong arm, while expressing concern about whether his range and reaction time at third base would be enough to handle the hard-hit balls typical of the major leagues.
MLB.com also raised the possibility of using Roh Si-hwan as a designated hitter to ease his defensive burden. But because the bar for offensive production is much higher for a designated hitter, this is likely to be another test for him.
The die is cast.
The deadline for Roh Si-hwan’s posting negotiations is 7 a.m. on December 2, Korea time. A nerve-racking 30-day game of cat and mouse has begun, as Roh’s bat—already valued at an astronomical 30.7 billion won by Hanwha—tries to open the wallets of big-league teams, including the club in pinstripes.
