[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon signaled on the 3rd that he was willing to join forces with independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon. His aim is to create an opportunity for dialogue to help secure victories in the 2028 general election and the 2030 presidential election. He also agreed with calls for the party’s floor leadership to apologize on the second anniversary of the Dec. 3 emergency martial law incident.
Speaking to reporters that day at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building, Mayor Oh said, “As I’ve repeatedly said since last weekend, there is no one I can’t meet and no one we can’t join forces with.”
“We have important elections ahead of us. If, by any chance, we lose the next general election, there is a possibility that we will extend the term of this lawless administration, which does not even recognize the separation of powers and is trying to get the judiciary under its thumb,” he said. “To prevent that, the party needs to create an atmosphere where everyone can come together.”
He explained that he had met lawmaker Han Dong-hoon at a funeral home on the 2nd and told him, “It would be good for us to meet soon.” Mayor Oh said, “I plan to speak candidly with anyone in the party, including Rep. Han, share my views, and explore ways to foster harmony and unity by discussing how to lay the groundwork for victories in the general and presidential elections.”
Asked about reports that floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik plans to issue an apology on the second anniversary of the Dec. 3 emergency martial law incident, he said, “We must spare no effort to reach out to the public.” He added, “I’ve said many times that if there is anything about the People Power Party that has disappointed the public, we should make our position clear and that there is nothing we cannot do, whether that means apologizing twice or five times.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Oh visited the National Assembly that day to attend a policy forum hosted by lawmaker Jo Eun-hee, titled “The Future of World Heritage Cities: Finding a Path to Coexistence.” With party leaders, including Jang Dong-hyeok, attending the forum, Mayor Oh and Jang were also seen crossing paths.
