[Financial News] The ‘30-day countdown’ that will determine the fate of Roh Si-hwan (26, Hanwha Eagles), one of South Korea’s leading next-generation right-handed power hitters, has finally begun.
Major League Baseball (MLB)’s office announced on the 3rd (Korea time), “Korean infielder Roh Si-hwan has been officially placed in the posting system.” The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), acting on the wishes of the Hanwha club, requested the posting on the 31st of last month. The administrative process was fully completed just three days later, officially opening the door to a move to the big leagues.
With the MLB office notifying all clubs of the posting, Roh Si-hwan will be free to negotiate a contract with any of the 30 major-league clubs for exactly 30 days, from 10 p.m. on the 4th (8 a.m. Eastern Time on the 3rd) until 7 a.m. on the 3rd of next month (5 p.m. Eastern Time on the 2nd).
Roh Si-hwan has the credentials to catch the eye of big-league scouts. Since making his professional debut in 2019, he has posted a .267 batting average, 153 home runs and 586 RBIs in 957 career first-team games. He dominated the league in 2023, winning both the home run and RBI titles. This season, too, he put up elite numbers over 127 games: a .283 batting average, 29 home runs, 96 RBIs and a .865 OPS. He also led South Korea to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) and to gold at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, fully proving his international competitiveness on the big stage. His youth—he is just 26—is his greatest asset.

This move is being made possible by the posting clause in the record-setting non-FA contract Roh Si-hwan signed with the Hanwha club last February: an 11-year deal worth 30.7 billion won, the largest of its kind in KBO League history. If Roh reaches a final agreement with a big-league club, Hanwha will receive a substantial transfer fee under the rules. On the other hand, even if the posting period ends without a satisfactory deal after a month of negotiations, Roh can return to his former team, Hanwha, with 30.7 billion won guaranteed, and fulfill his long-term contract as the franchise star.
With a powerful safety net behind him, Roh Si-hwan has boldly declared his intention to take on the world’s top stage. The 30 big-league clubs’ assessment of the KBO League’s top slugger is only just beginning.
