[Financial News] ONE store launched 'ONEitem,' an item-trading service that game companies integrate directly, on the 3rd. Players can sell items they own and receive ONE Dia, a currency they can use on ONE store. Starting with South Korea, ONE store plans to expand the service globally and to iOS and the web in November.
Until now, game-item trading has mainly taken place through external brokerage sites unaffiliated with game companies. Users have continued to face harm and risks, such as not receiving items after a transaction or having their accounts penalized for trading.
'ONEitem' is an official service in which game companies and ONE store both participate in the transaction process. Sellers link their game accounts and list items they own, while buyers pay for the items they want. Items are automatically delivered to buyers' game accounts, and sellers receive ONE Dia.
Safeguards have also been put in place. Integration with game companies ensures that sellers can list only items they actually own, and those items are locked in sellers' accounts while a transaction is underway. If an item cannot be delivered, the buyer's payment is canceled.
ONE Dia is a currency that can be used only on ONE store. It cannot be purchased with cash or exchanged for cash, and transfers to other users are also restricted. It can be used alongside coupons and ONE store points to buy apps and games on ONE store.
ONE store plans to use ONEitem to bring the value generated by trading, which had remained in external marketplaces, onto its platform and into game companies. It will share transaction fees with the game companies that created the items. The company also expects the service to reduce the burden of handling user harm and dealing with gold-farming operations arising from external trades, and to attract new users who discover games through the trading process.
ONE store has begun recruiting game companies to join the service alongside its launch. It plans to expand participation, focusing on multiplayer games with active item trading between users, including massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).
Jang Hyun-guk, CEO of ONE store, said, “This is a move to shift item-to-cash transactions that had been conducted unofficially to official trading involving game companies and the platform,” adding, “We will create a virtuous cycle in which the value of items stays within a game and leads to the enjoyment of other games.”
