[Financial News] President Lee said he would seek alternatives after receiving letters from elementary school students saying there were no cultural facilities in their residential area.
On the 2nd, President Lee received a request from elementary school students in rural areas to create a “Children’s Culture Pass.” The students wrote, “There’s no movie theater, performance venue or art museum in our neighborhood,” and he replied, “I’ll definitely find a way for friends who have difficulty enjoying cultural activities because of the distance to enjoy them more easily.”
That afternoon, President Lee shared on his social media (SNS) photos of handwritten letters that sixth-graders at Pohang Gibuk Elementary School had sent to the Blue House, and made the remarks above. The students’ letters he shared included comments such as, “To see a movie, we have to travel 40 minutes by car or an hour by bus. I’m envious of children in cities who watch musicals and take part in activities at museums, as seen on TV.”
Referring to the elementary school students’ handwritten letters, President Lee said, “The words, ‘Our school is small, but the world we want to see is not small,’ really resonate with me.” On the “Children’s Culture Pass” proposal, he said, “Thanks for the idea,” and indicated that he would consider it positively.
Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Choi Hwi-young also quoted President Lee’s post on his social media account that day and replied, “Mr. President, I will come up with an alternative so that children who lack cultural facilities in their area can also enjoy cultural activities.” He also told the elementary school students who wrote the letters, “Please bear with us and wait just a little longer.”
