[Financial News] A story has emerged of someone suffering losses because natural gas work has been delayed by a car parked in front of a building.
On the 2nd, JTBC’s “Scandal Supervisor” featured the account of A, who said they run a motorcycle repair shop in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
A reportedly bought the building they had been renting a year ago. Because the old building was not connected to the natural gas network, A applied for gas work in January this year. After waiting several months, work began last month, and the piping on the building’s side was completed. But ahead of the final stage—digging up the road and connecting the building to the gas pipeline—a sedan had been parked for about two weeks in the spot where the pipe needed to run.
With no contact information left in the car, A left a note asking, “Please move your vehicle because of the natural gas work,” but the car was still there on the day the work was due to be done. Worried that missing the construction window could mean waiting several more months, A asked the district office and police for help.
The car owner later got in touch with a district office official and reportedly said, “I’m not in Pohang right now, so I can’t move the car.” Asked when they could return, the owner replied, “I can’t tell you. I have no plans to go.” The owner also reportedly refused a request to coordinate directly with A and said not to give out their contact information. They even said, “I have absolutely no intention of moving the car, whether it’s for one month or two.” The district office says it would be difficult to tow the car forcibly because it is parked within a marked space.
A also asked the police for help, but they said, “This person can’t be reasoned with. They just stubbornly say no,” and advised A to file a complaint and submit a civil petition.
Then, on the morning of the 1st, A found a note on the car that read, “Don’t touch the car. I’ll take civil and criminal legal action~^^ There are valuables inside the car.” After checking the CCTV footage outside the shop, A saw that at around 4:30 a.m. that day, a man had arrived carrying three sheets of paper, attached them to the car’s windshield, driver’s-side window and rear window, and checked the car—trying to start it, among other things—before leaving without moving it.
A saw the man walking in from the direction of the road and also checked CCTV footage from another angle. The man reportedly returned about 10 minutes later in a taxi, took a photo of the note he had put up, then got back into the taxi and left.
A said in frustration, “I can’t for the life of me understand what kind of grudge someone I’ve never even met could have to do something like this.”
A, who lives in the building, said they are currently using an oil-fired boiler as a temporary measure because the building is not connected to natural gas. A added that they plan to file a complaint against the man for obstruction of business and seek damages.
