[Financial News] KOFIC said on the 3rd that it would launch a support program for films marking the pilot operation of Busan Gijang Film Studio, ahead of the studio’s official opening in the first half of next year.
Following the call for applications for the support program, Salsaengbu and Tupiseu were selected as the two final recipients. Four works were submitted, and the two selected works will receive a full waiver of studio facility rental fees during the pilot operation.
Busan Gijang Film Studio is a public film studio complex established by KOFIC in Gijang County, Busan, and is equipped with indoor studios and outdoor filming sets. It is also pursuing the development of the first virtual production studio in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang Province.
The support program for films marking the studio’s pilot operation was set up to support productions that will use the studio during its pilot run ahead of its official opening. Its aims went beyond selecting outstanding works to include promoting the studio and checking its facilities and operations in advance.
The evaluation committee said the selection process had been difficult because all the submissions had distinctive appeal and artistic and commercial potential. The evaluation considered whether the works could promote the studio domestically and internationally as productions representing its launch, whether their release dates would coincide with its official opening, and whether they could serve as test beds for checking the facilities and equipment from multiple angles during the pilot operation.
Gijang Film Studio plans to conduct pilot operations from this month through March next year, with the goal of officially opening around the second quarter of next year. After opening, it is expected to operate as a production hub supporting film and video production in Korea and abroad.
