[Financial News] In 2030, three new schools—a kindergarten, an elementary school and a high school—will be added to Busan Eco Delta City in Busan’s Gangseo District. If they open as scheduled, they are expected to greatly help ease concerns about a shortage of schools caused by large-scale apartment move-ins in the area.
The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education announced on the 3rd that plans to establish the provisionally named Eco 2 Kindergarten, Eco 2 Elementary School and Eco 1 High School in Busan Eco Delta City had received final approval in the Ministry of Education’s Central Investment Review.
The Eco 2 Kindergarten, which passed the central investment review this time, will be built at a total project cost of 34.4 billion won on a 3,901-square-meter site near lot 4448 in Gangdong-dong, Gangseo District. It will have 18 classes, including one special education class.
The Eco 2 Elementary School will be built at a total project cost of 58.6 billion won on a 15,837-square-meter site near lot 4521 in Gangdong-dong, Gangseo District, with 43 classes, including one special education class. Eco 1 High School will be built at a project cost of 60.7 billion won on a 17,782-square-meter site near lot 4206 in Gangdong-dong, with 43 classes, including one special education class.
The three educational facilities are scheduled to begin detailed design in the first half of next year, start construction in mid-2028 and be completed in January 2030.
The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education has been stepping up preparations to establish schools at all levels to meet educational demand arising from the supply of about 30,000 housing units in Busan Eco Delta City.
Beginning with the opening of Yeoul Kindergarten, Daejeo Jungang Elementary School and Garak Middle School in 2025, the office plans to establish a total of 15 schools in phases by 2029: five kindergartens, five elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school and one special school.
City Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun said, "We will do everything we can to ensure that school construction proceeds without a hitch in response to the rapid influx of people into Busan Eco Delta City," adding, "We will continue to advance field-centered education administration swiftly so that our students can pursue their dreams in the best possible environment."
