[Financial News] Singer Lee Hyori revealed that she also regularly visits a mental health clinic for treatment while counseling a couple whose excessive drinking was causing conflict.
On JTBC’s variety show “Yeonae Jeonjaeng,” which aired on the 2nd, Lee Hyori listened to the story of a couple at odds over drinking and offered heartfelt advice. The couple said they had been in ongoing conflict over binge drinking, and the conflict appeared to be serious.
According to the show, the boyfriend drank six days a week and routinely drank four plastic bottles of soju each time. When drunk, he would lose control and sometimes become violent.
The girlfriend also made abusive remarks when she drank and seemed unable to control her emotions. She also behaved strangely, engaging in excessive physical affection with her boyfriend at all hours and asking to smell his body odor. And although she worried about his health, she would also encourage him to drink.
After hearing their story, Lee Hyori asked, “Would you encourage someone who’s sick to drink?” She pointed out, “It doesn’t seem like the woman genuinely likes and cares about the man. It’s closer to an obsession with ‘I want to make him mine’ or ‘I want to have him.’” She also said, “It seems like she just wants to possess the other person, rather than letting them be comfortable as they are and observing them,” and firmly added, “You should each date someone else.”
Lee Hyori scolded them, saying, “(If not,) take a break from dating. Has anything about your lives been on the right track, before and after you met?” She then pointed out, “You used to work out and work hard in the restaurant business, but now you’re so steeped in alcohol that you can hardly leave the house, aren’t you?”
She went on, “The girlfriend is drinking along with him, too. Nothing gets better when they’re together, and I can only think they’re an ill-fated match. I really wish they would break up,” expressing her frustration.
Lee Hyori also advised, “I really hope you both go to a clinic together. Because I see a psychiatrist too,” adding, “Even when it doesn’t seriously interfere with my daily life, I go from time to time, like getting a routine health checkup.” She emphasized, “Rather than going through life saying, ‘There’s nothing wrong with me,’ it would be good to ask yourself, ‘Could I be alcohol-dependent?’ and get checked.”
