According to industry sources on the 3rd, Naver’s AI-powered search and agentic AI service, AI Tab, has obtained ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, the international standard for AI management systems. It is the first such certification in South Korea for a search-based agentic AI service used by a large number of people.
ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international management system standard in the field of AI, jointly established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It assesses whether governance, risk management, security, ethics and other areas are managed systematically in the development, provision and operation of AI systems.
AI Tab is a service that exchanges multiple rounds of conversation with users, understands the context and provides personalized answers. It goes beyond presenting search results to connect users with the next steps they want to take, such as making reservations and purchases.
In particular, the service’s system for managing the risks of agentic AI—which goes beyond answering users’ questions to take real-world actions—has been recognized through independent third-party verification. Naver was assessed in both areas, as an AI model developer and a service provider.
Naver documents and manages the processes for identifying, assessing and addressing AI risks, led by its dedicated AI safety organization, the AI Safety Center. It also operates the company-wide AI Risk Taxonomy and Identification framework, ‘N-ARTI,’ and the safety assessment tool ‘N-ASET’ as components of its management system.
This management system is based on Naver’s AI Safety Framework, ‘ASF 2.0,’ and checklist, ‘CHEC 2.0.’ CHEC 2.0 was recognized as an exemplary practice in the certification assessment.
Naver plans to extend the safety management system validated in this assessment to other agentic AI services across Team Naver.
Yoo Bong-seok, Naver’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), said, “In an era when AI searches and takes action on users’ behalf, safety and trust are as important as convenience. We will continue to extend the safety management system validated with AI Tab to other agentic AI services across Team Naver.”
