Samsung Biologics disclosed on the 3rd that it had signed a new contract manufacturing (CMO) deal with a global pharmaceutical company worth $324.8 million (about 434.3 billion won). The client and product name were not disclosed under a confidentiality clause. The contract runs through December 31, 2031.
With this deal, Samsung Biologics’ cumulative orders since its founding reached $22.3 billion. It is the ninth contract the company has disclosed this year.
The company sees significance in securing a major contract that will sustain production and supply through 2031, despite global economic uncertainty and intensifying competition in the contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) market. Having secured long-term volumes and expanded its order backlog, it expects its future performance to become more predictable.
Samsung Biologics counts most of the world’s top 20 pharmaceutical companies among its clients and handles the entire process, from drug development to commercial production. It plans to focus on securing new clients and expanding contracts with existing ones in response to rising demand for biopharmaceuticals and the trend toward more diversified supply chains.
Samsung Biologics is pursuing a “three-pillar expansion” strategy to broaden its production capacity, portfolio and geographical footprint. As it increases capacity to meet rising demand for biopharmaceuticals, it is also expanding into areas such as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and peptides. Last August, it opened a European sales office in the Netherlands, completing its sales presence in the three major markets of the United States, Japan and Europe.
A Samsung Biologics spokesperson said, “We will continue to expand our order wins by strengthening customer trust through our production capacity, diversified portfolio, global presence and quality competitiveness.”
