[Financial News] A campaign is underway in which banks accrue donations when people click 'Like' or leave comments online, with the funds used to provide rice to neighbors in need.
According to the Korean Red Cross on the 3rd, it is running the 'Anyone Can DiY Donation Campaign' on BANKiT, a social contribution platform, together with the Korea Federation of Banks through the 30th of this month. This year, it aims to raise 500 million won, 100 million won more than last year.
Clicking 'Like' on or sharing a campaign post on the BANKiT app or website earns 10,000 won for each action, while leaving a comment earns 20,000 won. Each activity can be done once a day, and doing all three earns up to 40,000 won a day.
The donations will be used to deliver white rice through the Korean Red Cross to approximately 33,560 households in vulnerable groups. The rice is to be purchased from production facilities for products made by people with severe disabilities. This is also expected to help support employment and income stability for people with disabilities. These facilities have been designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare after meeting requirements including the proportion of employees with disabilities and their participation in production.
The Korea Federation of Banks has provided essential goods to neighbors in need through the 'Bank Love Sharing Network' since 2006. In 2022, it shifted to a public participation-based donation campaign through BANKiT. To date, the initiative has delivered essential goods worth a total of 13.57 billion won to 408,514 households.
Park Jong-sul, Secretary General of the Korean Red Cross, said, "It is highly meaningful that anyone can easily take part in their everyday lives, and that these contributions come together to provide the support needed by neighbors in need."
